The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office recognized deputies and community members who made a positive impact on the department.

At last week’s Board of Carbon County Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Alex Bakken announced the creation of the Sheriff’s Posse award. Sheriff Bakken explained that the award is given to people who have helped the sheriff’s department make the county safer.

Sheriff Bakken presented the first Sheriff’s Posse Award to the superintendents of Carbon County school districts one and two: Mike Hamel and Darrin Jennings. Because Superintendent Hamel was unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting, Carbon County School District Number One Director of Human Services Tanya Wall accepted the Sheriff’s Posse Award on his behalf.

Sheriff Bakken said both superintendents were instrumental in the creation of the first school resource officer program in Carbon County.

Next, Sheriff Bakken announced the winner of the Employee of the First Quarter for 2024: Deputy Tyler Christen. The sheriff praised Deputy Christen’s proactive attitude.

Finally, at last week’s commissioner meeting, Sheriff Bakken announced the creation of a new award: the Departmental Lifesaving Medal. The sheriff explained that on the morning of June 25th, 2024, Deputy Joel Robertson was the first to arrive to an ambulance call for an unresponsive individual. Sheriff Bakken said because of Deputy Robertson’s actions, the person survived.

The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office Departmental Lifesaving Medal consists of a blue Maltese cross with the Wyoming state seal in the center.
