The Carbon County Visitors Council is paying for a new LED sign for the Hanna town hall.

During the October 8th Hanna town council meeting, Mayor Jayson Nordquist addressed Item F on the meeting agenda, a proposed $17,600 lighted display sign for the town, which will be paid for by the Visitors Council.

Mayor Nordquist explained that the Visitors Council, also known as Discover Carbon County, has agreed to reimburse the town of Hanna for the purchase of a new town hall sign.

During the August 13th Hanna town council meeting, Mayor Nordquist described the sign as being similar to the Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce sign in Saratoga. The mayor said the Hanna town hall sign will feature a programable screen capable of displaying advertisements and messages.

Back at the October 8th meeting, Carbon County Visitors Council Chief Executive Officer Leslie Jefferson said the town’s reimbursement grant application was discussed by the Visitors Council board several months ago. While she was confident that the grant would be approved, Jefferson said the board was not set to officially vote on the matter until the following week.

The governing body unanimously voted to use the $17,632 grant to purchase the previously discussed sign.

A call to the Hanna town hall indicated that the grant application was, indeed, approved by the Visitors Council board. No word on when the sign will be delivered.

The Hanna town hall is also set to receive another new sign, this one inscribed on a large rock. During the September 19th special meeting of the governing body, Clerk Gonzales explained that an engraved rock will be placed outside of the council’s meeting chamber.

The rock sign is still in the process of being engraved. A date for its installation has not yet been announced.
