After numerous delays, work on the Spring Avenue water line replacement and street pavement project is back on track.

On Tuesday, Town of Saratoga officials met again with Lewis and Lewis, the contractor handling the Spring Avenue water line replacement project. Work to replace the aging water pipe infrastructure had come to a standstill when ground water filled the bore pit in front of Town Hall. Efforts to dewater the pit were unsuccessful until recently. The bore pit is being used to thread pipe beneath First Street, so they don’t have to close main road through town.

As promised, the drilling company, Coleman Construction, returned to the job this past Friday. They managed to knock out most of the boring work that day and had only a few feet of pipe to push on Tuesday. Josh Morris, from T-O Engineering asked the representative from Coleman when they would be finished.

With Coleman finished, the contractor can get to work filling the pit.

The town asked Ward about paving the intersection of Third and Spring. Ward said it won’t happen until after work is completed at Shively Field.

At the last meeting, the town asked Ward to create a more detailed timeline of the job. Ward didn’t have the new schedule prepared. Morris told Ward that the town wants an idea of when things would be finished.

Ward said the bore pit was the deciding factor of when the job would be completed. He said he’ll feel more comfortable providing solid dates once the pit is finished.

With the bore pit nearing completion, Lewis and Lewis should be able to continue moving forward with the project. Paving should take place sometime later this month. It remains to be seen how much work will be finished before the weather puts a stop to Ward’s progress.
