About 20 students, some high school aged but mostly from the University of Wyoming and smeared in fake blood, staged a die-in at the State Capitol on Monday afternoon.
The students blotched with red paint assumed prone positions on the main floor of the capitol building outside the offices of Governor Mark Gordon for about a half-hour. They were protesting House Bill 172, which is moving through the state legislature. The legislation would ban gun-free zones in the state.
The governor emerged from his office and spoke to the organizer of the dramatic spectacle, Sophia Gomelsky, for a few minutes.
The governor expressed understanding for their position but said that the Legislature may override his veto if he were to kill the bill.
