Accounting firm shares hospital feasibility study results

Independent accounting firm BKD came to the Platte Valley Wednesday evening to discuss projected revenue and expense streams for a critical access hospital in Saratoga. The numbers presented show a hospital operating in the red.

The financial outlook may not be as bad as the bottom suggests, though.

The accountants also observed that if non-cash items, such as depreciation are omitted the operation could show a net income. Emma Diercks was at the meeting and filed this report.

Rawlins officials preparing for 2020 Census

It’s time to count heads. Article 1, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution stipulates that a census be taken every ten years.

The clock is ticking, and the next population count is set for April 1, 2020. The first tabulation was made in 1790.

Next year, Americans will be able to answer the census questions online. In Rawlins last week, city officials stressed why obtaining an accurate count matters to the community. Cali O’Hare reports.
