Interstate 80, near Wamsutter, was the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning in snowy conditions.
In a text message received by Bigfoot 99 at 9:01 Wednesday morning, a Saratoga tow truck operator said another “operator just got smashed between a pickup and a semi at Patrick Draw.”
The crash occurred at the 157 mile marker near Tipton.
Multiple tow-truck operators were working in the area at the time.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports a tow-truck operator was trying to recover a truck around 9 a.m. Wednesday west of Wamsutter. Two trucks had been involved in a crash Tuesday evening and remained in place overnight because of poor weather conditions and lack of visibility.
One of the vehicles was a lumber truck that had lost its load.
According to a statement from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, as the recovery operation was underway yesterday morning, a pickup truck lost control as it approached the crash scene in the westbound lane and struck the tow truck.
Several large tow-trucks were on the scene at the time as they were involved in the recovery operation.
Video footage, shot by a passerby, shows four tow trucks parked off the interstate on either side of the crash scene around mile marker 158. One freighter was lying on its side, in the median strip between the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-80.
The crash that resulted in the injury to the tow-truck driver happened after the video was shot.
The injured tow-truck driver was air-flighted to Colorado for emergency medical treatment. No update on the driver was available.
