A 59-year-old truck driver, Adrian Shawn Doolin was arrested in Kansas City last Thursday in connection with the fiery crash involving two tractor-trailer combinations on Interstate 80 one week earlier that killed a passenger in Doolin’s rig near Arlington.

Carbon County Attorney Sarah Chavez charged Doolin with one count of aggravated homicide by vehicle.

Numerous other charges were included in the court documents, including operating a commercial vehicle without a CDL — commercial driver’s license.

Other charges include failure to maintain a single lane of traffic, failure to log his record of duty status, and failure to provide medical certification to operate a commercial vehicle.

According to the crash report filed by Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Caleb Hobbs, the crash between one parked and one moving semitruck at mile marker 274 near Arlington, on I-80 headed east, happened before 10 a.m. Sept. 18, and led to the death of Ralph Pimentel, 55.

In his crash report, Lt. Hobbs noted that travel conditions at the time of the crash were sunny with dry roads and very low winds.

The driver of the stationary rig was cited for parking on a controlled access highway.

According to the affidavit, hazard lights on the truck-cab were flashing, but the trailer didn’t have power access, so the flashing hazards were not blinking.

Court documents also indicate that tire tracks in the emergency lane showed that prior to impact, the approaching truck had braked for about 6 feet in the emergency lane before hitting the CR England truck.

Doolin faces over 21 years in jail resulting from the charges in the case.
