The Upper Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District needs more members for its board. As with most organizations that rely on volunteers, local oversight committees are experiencing a lack of participation.
At last Tuesday’s Saratoga Town Council meeting, Town Clerk Marie Christen read a letter written by UPRSWDD Chairman Randy Raymer. In his letter, Raymer said the solid waste disposal district needs two more members.

Addressing the council directly, Raymer said his letter was designed to bring attention to the county’s ineffective search for volunteers. He asked the council if they had any desire of joining the solid waste disposal board.
Raymer described to Mayor Chuck Davis some of the duties of the UPRSWDD. He said the board’s ads were getting lost in a sea of similar requests.
Mayor Davis instructed the town clerk to spread the word about the openings online. He asked the council if they wanted to fill either of the vacant positions. Council members Mike Cooley and Kathy Beck both declined.
Council members Jacob and Jerry Fluty also said no.
Raymer said he cast a wide net in his search for volunteers. The UPRSWDD chairman expressed surprise at not being able to find two people interested in joining the board.
Mayor Davis told Raymer he would personally ask for volunteers.
Reading from Raymer’s letter, the town clerk said people should contact a member of the solid waste disposal district if they are interested in the position.
Raymer told Bigfoot 99 that the board is governed by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. Aside from adhering to government regulations, he described some of the other duties of the solid waste district board.
