The Carbon County Visitor’s council is proposing an area-wide clean-up competition to beautify the county with the goal of increasing tourism.
During the June 11th Hanna town council meeting, the Visitor’s Council Chief Executive Officer Leslie Jefferson spoke about the newly completed master plan for her organization. Jefferson explained how the master plan is designed to increase tourism.
Jefferson said she created a steering committee made up of 27 Carbon County residents. She also hired Cheyene-based consulting firm Rudloff Solutions to work on the plan. After reviewing 26 planning documents from different municipalities, Jefferson said the steering committee agreed on how they want to market Carbon County.
The next step in the tourism master plan creation process was identifying the four strategic opportunities for Carbon County: the visitor’s experience, outdoor recreation, hospitality, and collaborations.
Jefferson said the steering committee wanted to focus on the visitor experience by improving the county’s appearance, specifically along highways. Jefferson said while working in Washington state, she led a series of well received community clean up events.
Jefferson suggested a similar competition where every municipality in Carbon County will select an area to clean up. Afterwards, an outside judge will determine which town did a better job of beautifying the chosen space.
The Hanna town council did not specifically comment on the neighborhood beautification challenge idea and Jefferson did not provide a date for the proposed event.
