The city of Rawlins has installed five new, permanent cornhole boards at Washington Park.

City residents have a new outdoor activity thanks to the city’s parks department. Five concrete boards for sack toss competition have been installed at Washington Park. Parks and Recreation Director Jason Sehon said the boards are a welcome addition to the green space. Sehon expressed his gratitude to Parks Superintendent Tyrell Perry and his parks staff for installing the boards.

Sehon said cornhole is a growing sport.  The goal of the game is to score points by either landing a bag on the board for one point, or putting a bag through the hole for three points.

When Parks Superintendent Perry saw how popular cornhole is with residents, Sehon said he decided to turn half of the horseshoe pits in Washington Park into cornhole boards. Sehon said improvements to the horseshoe pits and the new cornhole boards makes the area a great place for outdoor gamesmanship.

Sehon said the city’s parks crews removed the existing material in the horseshoe pits and replaced it with fresh sand. With the horseshoe pit freshly completed, Sehon said Parks Superintendent Perry sought out sponsors to pay for permanent concrete cornhole boards.

Sehon said to call him at the Rawlins Family Recreation Center at 324-7529 for more information about how to sponsor a cornhole board.

Sehon said the boards are already proving popular with residents. The bean bags used for tossing are free to borrow from the recreation center.

Sehon said beginning on Tuesday, September 12th, a cornhole league for players of all ages and skill levels will meet at Washington Park. Sehon said the city will provide all the equipment necessary for the bi-weekly games.

Sehon said he’ll provide a copy of the official cornhole rules at the recreation center.

The parks and rec director said the new cornhole boards wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the entire community.

The five concrete cornhole boards are located at Washington Park in Rawlins. Sehon said to call the Rawlins Family Recreation Center at 324-7529 for more information about the rules of the game or to sponsor an additional set of boards.
