Saratoga mayor gets property appraised

At last night’s Saratoga Town Council meeting, Mayor John Zeiger admitted that he had municipal property across from the SCWEMS ambulance barn appraised without having the action ratified by the governing body.

Zeiger also claimed he had the right to ask for an appraisal without seeking the approval of council, but then said he and the council need to start working together. Emma Diercks has the story.

Tin Can Hill decision tabled

Carbon County officials want an update on the Tin Can Hill project in Rawlins before extending a deed on the transfer of the land to the city.

Because the city failed to develop the area in the two years required by the transfer deal, the land reverted back to county ownership last month.

The lack of action or even details about transforming the area north of Cedar street into a fishing and storm-water retention pond produced frustration at the city level before bubbling up to the county.

County denies BluEarth wind projects

Carbon County Commissioners yesterday voted against issuing a conditional use permit to BluEarth Renewables for two wind energy projects east of Medicine Bow.

The commissioners want the Canadian company to have its information filed and approved with the Bureau of Land Management before a permit is issued.
