Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers arrested two men last month in stolen Lamborghinis outside Rawlins.
On Sunday morning May 26 around 11:35 a.m., Highway Patrol troopers, based in Rawlins, received a complaint about two stolen Lamborghinis headed east towards Carbon County on Interstate 80. An article in the Cowboy State Daily lists the cars as a 2019 white Huracán Roadster and a 2015 green Aventador. Both were rented in Utah.
Highway Patrol Trooper Ryan Gerdes told Bigfoot99 that ONYX Rentals in North Salt Lake City, Utah, reported that two male suspects rented the Lamborghinis. The drivers were reported to have left Utah in violation of the contract with ONYX. The suspects also exceeded the allowable miles on their rental agreement. They also were speeding.
ONYX employees called the suspects and demanded they return the two sports cars. However, the two men disconnected the vehicles’ GPS trackers, preventing the rental company from tracking their location.
Trooper Gerdes writes that Highway Patrol troopers stopped the two Lamborghinis at milepost 216 heading eastbound on I-80.
The troopers discovered the drivers, identified as 35-year-old Andrew Blackman and 32-year-old Dassman Fadil, had used false names to rent the vehicles. After confirming the vehicles were reported stolen, troopers arrested Blackman and Fadil for possession of stolen property.
The two suspects are currently being held at the Carbon County Detention Center. Each man is facing one count of felony theft, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Troopers also seized a tablet and three phones as part of the investigation.
The rental car company estimated the value of the white Lamborghini at $343,000 and the green Lamborghini at $243,000.
Trooper Gerdes writes that the Wyoming Highway Patrol gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the Rawlins Police Department on this investigation.
Both Blackman and Fadil were seen in Carbon County District Court last Thursday. A call to the district court revealed that neither suspect has been set a new hearing date at this time.
