A Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper’s vehicle was struck while responding to a collision on Interstate 80 this past Saturday.

On the evening of February 1, a Wyoming Highway Patrol Lieutenant was responding to a crash on I-80 in Carbon County when he was struck by a vehicle while situated in his patrol car. The trooper was trapped in his vehicle for an undetermined amount of time.

The unnamed Lieutenant was extricated from the wreck and transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and subsequently released. A social media post from Wyoming Highway Patrol states that the trooper is, “doing well and ready to get back to work.”

Bigfoot99 reached out to Highway Patrol for more details about the incident, such as the type of vehicle that struck the trooper and the condition of the other driver. At this time, no other information has been released.

Wyoming Highway Patrol reminds all motorists to follow State Statute 31-5-224, which requires drivers to move into a lane that is at least one lane away from an emergency vehicle.

Additionally, motorists are required to slow to twenty miles an hour less than the posted speed limit when passing an emergency vehicle.

For everyone’s safety, slow down and move over.
