Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon, this week, submitted his official Consistency Review on the Rock Springs Resource Management Plan (RMP) Revision to the Bureau of Land Management.

The state’s final review of the federal project was submitted on Tuesday.

In the document’s introductory remarks, the governor states, “This document has been at the forefront of the Wyoming’s people’s minds and this process watched across the nation.”

In an official statement accompanying the state’s review on Tuesday, the governor said, “I firmly believe that the BLM’s work here is inconsistent with existing federal and state laws, as well as county policies. It appears to be driven by a national political agenda, not the cooperative process between states, counties and the federal government envisioned in the Federal Land Policy Management Act (FLPMA). Moving from an untenable to an unworkable decision does not make their decision any more consistent.”

Appearing on Bigfoot 99, Wednesday morning, the governor added this.

In the state’s official response to the BLM released on Tuesday, Governor Gordon advises the federal government that “the health of Southwestern Wyoming’s economy, natural resources and wildlife will be best served by durable and broadly supported land management policies. That is why it is important for the Bureau to respect this Consistency Review and make the appropriate changes at this point in the process, before the RMP becomes final.”

Governor Gordon had 60-days to complete and submit his Consistency Review following the release of the Final Environmental Impact Statement. State Agencies previously submitted their protest letters following a 30-day window. The ROD is expected from the BLM before the end of the year.

The governor’s Consistency Review was sent to Andrew Archuleta, the State Director of the Bureau of Land Management in Cheyenne.
