Pomp and circumstance were on full display Monday for past Presidents during the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States.
The Wyoming Congressional Delegation attended the inauguration held inside the Capitol Rotunda. The event was moved inside due in part to dangerously cold temperatures outside in the nation’s capital. Security concerns may have played a role, as well.
As one of his last acts before leaving, outgoing President Joe Biden announced preemptive pardons for Anthony Fauci, the so-called COVID tsar, General Mark Milley, and members of the January 6 committee, including former Wyoming House Representative Liz Cheney.
Appearing on CBS Morning News, Wyoming Senator John Barrasso took aim at the last-minute presidential cover.
The three co-anchors of the CBS morning show objected, saying the outgoing president was concerned about retribution and how any investigations might hurt the reputations of Cheney and the others.
Senator Barrasso brushed off the quickly mounted defense of the CBS news team.
Senator Barrasso said he expects President Trump to issue an immediate series of Executive Orders addressing border security, energy, and the economy.
Later, on Monday, the Senate passed the Laken Riley Act, making the immigration-related bill the first piece of legislation to make it through the upper chamber in the new Congress and putting it a step closer to being signed into law by President Trump.
Senators voted 64-35 on the bill. Twelve Democrats voted with every Republican.
