In Washington, D.C., Senator John Barrasso announced plans yesterday to introduce legislation that he said is designed to fix the broken permitting process for energy production. Barasso said project opponents on the left have become skilled at exploiting the nation’s permitting process to stop new projects.
Senator Barasso will introduce new legislation today, developed with West Virginia Senator Shelly Capito, designed “to lower prices for American families and restore our country to energy dominance.”
Barrasso said the current permitting system is broken at the federal level, with projects moving in slow motion or not at all. Barrasso said the bill he will introduce today in the Senate is designed to streamline the process while preserving environmental standards. Wyoming’s Senior Senator said the goal is to lower energy prices for American families.
Barrasso said the bill he will introduce today enjoys bipartisan support in the senate.
Earlier this week, Senator Barrasso castigated Interior Secretary Deb Haaland’s record on oil and gas leasing at a committee hearing Tuesday, accusing her of violating the law by not holding quarterly lease sales as required under federal law. During her time as Interior Secretary, Haaland has held only one lease sale in two years. The Department of the Interior has scheduled lease sales for the second and third quarters of this year.
