In a late-hour session of the Wyoming Legislature on Friday, the House and Senate finished up their work on separate budget bills. Both chambers spent less than the Governor requested in his budget, but more than the Joint Appropriations Committee had projected.
The JAC estimated $680 million total. The Senate version added $228 million more. The House version clocks in at $119 million more than the recommendation of Joint Appropriations.
The House Budget passed on a 43-14 vote. Representative Bob Davis of Carbon County was a “no” vote. Libera Democrats Karlee Provenza of Laramie, and two Jackson Hole Democrats, Liz Storer and Mike Yin had their own reasons for voting “no.” House District 15 representative Pam Thayer of Rawlins voted “Yes” on the measure.
In the senate, the budget passed on a 28-3 vote.
Both the House and Senate versions came in lower than Governor Mark Gordon’s $692 million supplemental budget request.
A conference committee with members of both, the House and the Senate, represented will work to negotiate a compromise agreement for a final budget proposal in the next few weeks.
