To avoid conflicts with other activities, the Rawlins Recreation Soccer League has been postponed to later in the summer.
Every year, the Rawlins Recreation Department hosts a youth soccer league. Games typically begin in late April or early May. This year, the rec soccer league has been moved to July.
Parks and Recreation director Nikki Howell explained that she switched the date to prevent overscheduling the players and overworking the volunteer coaches. Howell said she and Recreation Supervisor Randy Flamig rely on volunteers to make the youth sports league function.
Howell said pushing back the start date allows the kids to participate in more activities during the lead up to the school year. The parks and rec director said if the later start doesn’t work out, she will move the games back to early summer.
The Rawlins Rec Soccer League is open to kids between the ages of 6 and 12. Howell said if she has enough interest, she will create leagues for older players.
Howell said the Rawlins Rec Soccer League is open to all children in Carbon County. The parks and recreation director said if you can get to the games, you can play soccer in Rawlins.
At the time of the interview, Howell said she wasn’t entirely sure what the registration cost will be for this year’s league.
