The Wyoming Cowboys, coming off Sunday’s 23-point loss to #4 Texas, will wrap up their road trip in Portland, Oregon tonight.
The Cowboys are 4-2 overall on the season. For a young team, the Cowboys show promise. The Pokes rank No. 26 in the nation and lead the Mountain West shooting 39.1 percent from behind the arc this season.
Wyoming is shooting 47 percent from the field, which ranks fifth in the Mountain West. Wyoming leads the league in forcing turnovers, 14.8 per game.
Meanwhile, Portland heads into tonight’s matchup with a 4-3 overall record after a buzzer beater loss to cross town rival Portland State Tuesday. The score was 75-74. The Pilots are led ed by one of the top players in the West Coast Conference in Tyler Robertson, who is averaging 18.1 points per game.
Wyoming’s top scorers are Sam Griffin at 19 points per game and Akue Kot at 14.5 PPG. Griffin and Kot are big parts of the team head coach Jeff Linder put together after the defections of players to the portal last spring. Despite the defections, Wyoming’s backcourt play has improved.
Coach Linder admitted this week that tonight’s matchup at Portland will be a challenge.
Tonight’s meeting is just the third all-time between the Cowboys and the Pilots. Wyoming leads the series 2-0. Their last meeting was in 1983.
