The Wyoming Cowboys will face Fresno State on Saturday evening. Fresno State is coming off a big 30-7 road win over Boise State last week.
The Bulldogs are 3-2 on the season coming into the third week of November. Wyoming is 2-3 after a 24-7 loss to San Diego State to open the month. The Cowboys are coming off a bye last week which Coach Jay Sawvel said came at a good time.
Looking at this week’s challenges, Sawvel said avoiding turnovers will be key.
The Bulldogs are coached by former North Dakota State football coach Matt Entz, who came in last year after Jeff Tedford stepped down for health reasons. Fresno State finished last year at 6-6. The Bulldogs are already 6-3 on the 2025 season.
Coach Sawvel put a spotlight on turnover margin—a statistic that has hurt the Cowboys this year.
Sawvel said last week’s open date helped his offense.
Backup quarterback Landon Sims is out for the remainder of the 2025 season after suffering a left knee injury during a game against the Aztecs on November 2nd. Head Coach Jay Sawvel confirmed the injury, stating Sims would have surgery on Tuesday. While the exact injury has not been identified, unconfirmed sources indicate that it may be another ACL surgery—the third in his young career.
Sawvel was asked if Simms will ever play again.
The Bulldogs went with Carson Conklin at quarterback last week. The sophomore connected on just 10 of 21 passes for 35 yards, but benefitted from a Fresno State defense that held the Broncos to under 200 yards of offense.
The Bulldogs have already qualified for a bowl game with six wins, defeating two teams ahead of them—3rd place Hawaii and the Broncos who are tied for first place.
Kickoff for Wyoming and Fresno State is set for 8:30 Saturday night. The fun begins with the pregame show at 7 here on Bigfoot 99 in a game televised nationally on FS1.
