Wyoming jumped out to an early 28-21 lead in Portland Friday night, but the Pilots roared back for an 81-70 win before a sparse home crowd.

The Cowboys got out of synch early and then went on a long scoring drought through much of the first half. Early foul trouble and 44 percent shooting from the field proved too much to overcome on the road. With the loss, Wyoming fell to 4-and-3 on the season.

The top shooters for Wyoming were Sam Griffin with 17 points. Aquel Kot added 15.  Portland native Kobe Newton, recorded 14 points hitting a career-high with four threes on the night in front of friends and family who turned out for the game.

The Portland game was the bookend to a long stint from Laramie. The Cowboys return home for the first time in almost a month to host South Dakota Mines on Tuesday in a 6:30 p.m. start here on Bigfoot 99.
