The Wyoming Cowboys improved to 2-and-2 in conference play with a come-from-behind 70-65 win over Air Force inside Clune Arena on Saturday.
In a contest that was delayed one-hour because of security concerns, four Wyoming players scored in double figures during the come-from-behind win in Colorado Springs. Senior Guard Kobe Newton put up 16 points. Another senior Dontaie Allen added 14. Junior forward Matija Belic added 13 while senior Jordan Nesbit put up a dozen points in the road win.
The Cowboys started slow, were down by three points at the half, then rallied in the second half. Wyoming guarded the arc, allowing Air Force just 28 percent shooting in the second half.
With senior point guard Obi Agbim, Wyoming’s scoring leader, sidelined with an ankle injury, the Cowboys played with a will to win.
Keith Kelly had the call as Allen helped the Cowboys get back in the game, going five-for-five from the field, four-for-four from the arc and two rebounds.
On the night, Wyoming made 9 of their 13 3-point attempts. Critical UW free throws down the stretch helped the Cowboys seal the road win.
Wyoming locked up their fourth win in five games with a 12-to-1 run late in the second half.
UW returns home to host New Mexico (12-3, 4-0) at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lobos come into Laramie undefeated in Conference play. Tip is set for 8 p.m.
