In Albuquerque, the Cowgirls went cold in the second half as Wyoming fell to New Mexico 68-61 Wednesday night.
The Wyoming women shot just 31.3 percent from the field and 3-of-18 from three-point range as the game slipped away in the fourth quarter. The Cowgirls led by 13 early in the third but went onto lose their first game in conference action. Seven turnovers in the third quarter and 3-of-19 shooting from deep spelled doom as Wyoming drops to 4-and-1 in conference play.
Head Coach Heather Ezelle said her team didn’t play with the same intensity as the Lobos.
With last night’s loss on the road, Wyoming falls to second place in the Mountain West, trailing only UNLV. The Cowgirls will look to bounce back at home on Saturday when Border Rival Colorado State comes to Laramie.
The Double-header on Saturday in the Arena Auditorium has the Cowgirls playing Colorado State at 2 p.m. The Wyoming men are also at home against Nevada at 5:30.
