Boise State took control of the quarterfinal championship game in Las Vegas Monday night as the Wyoming Cowgirls went cold on the way to a 62-54 one-and-done elimination loss.
Wyoming opened the game with hot shooting, hitting four of their first five shots. By the fourth quarter they had gone cold, hitting just two of 14 shots.
Allyson Fertig, who connected for 16 points on the night, opened the second half with Wyoming’s first five points, as the Cowgirls took a 34-29 lead. Boise State regained control, going on a 9-2 run before a Malene Pederson three-pointer gave Wyoming the lead going into the fourth.
Wyoming went ice-cold in the fourth quarter, hitting just three-of-17 shots. The Broncos hit three, three-point shots and five of their last seven in the fourth quarter while holding Wyoming to one field goal on the way to the the quarterfinal win.
Associate Head Coach Ryan Larsen summed up the loss and fourth quarter Wyoming collapse this way.
Sixth-seeded Boise State advances to play No. 7 San Diego State, which knocked off No. 2 New Mexico. No. 1 UNLV will play No. 5 Colorado State in the other semifinal on Tuesday.
The Cowgirls will head home early and wait their chance for a post-season invite of some kind.
