This is homecoming week at San Diego State University.

Head Coach Sean Lewis joined the team last year when the Aztecs unveiled their new Snapdragon Stadium. It was a tough year for his team when Lewis first came on board. The Aztecs went 3-9 overall, 2-5 in Mountain West play. Wyoming finished with the exact same record, 3-9 and 2-5.

This year, the Aztecs are off to a 6-1 start. They’re 3-0 in conference play.

To help his team mentally prepare for Wyoming, Head Coach Sean Lewis brought in a mountaineer who had climbed Mount Everest to talk to the Aztecs about the mental and physical preparation for the journey that still lies before them. Coach Lewis wants to plant the Aztecs flag on top of the Mountain West Conference title before leaving the conference.

The Aztecs will put a five-game winning streak on the line against Wyoming. SDSU is undefeated in their new Stadium this year. Coach Lewis sees a big battle in the trenches with Cowboys this week. He expressed nothing but respect for the Wyoming football team on both sides of the ball.

SDSU leads the Mountain West — and is among the nation’s leaders — in several defensive categories. The Aztecs have only allowed two rushing touchdowns this season, second only to Ohio State which has given up a single rushing touchdown. The Aztecs defense has scored four defensive touchdowns this season. They’re tied for third in the nation with Maryland Troy.

The SDSU offense has a pass efficiency rating of 96.7—third in the country behind Oregon and Arizona.

Their third down conversion rate is ranked 5th.

Still Coach Lewis said he has nothing but respect for the Cowboys and Head Coach Jay Sawvel after last week’s win over CSU.

Elaborating on his Mount Everest analogy, Coach Lewis said, “The higher you climb, the harder it gets.” Embracing the pain will be key to victory for the winning team on Saturday.  Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Bigfoot 99 will be on the air at 3:30 p.m.
