The Wyoming Cowboys were stopped short of the goal line as time ran out Saturday in a disappointing 13-7 loss to Nevada Saturday afternoon.
With nine minutes and change on the clock, the Wolfpack kicked a 41 yard field goal to take a 10-0 lead. Even the Wyoming radio announcer Keith Kelley summed up the game, saying, “no bueno.”
The Cowboys failed to execute effectively. Tote Harris was on crutches on the sidelines. The Wyoming ground game finished with 68 yards. The Cowboys threw for 152 yards.
The big moment came during the halftime ceremonies. Under the Wyoming sunshine and a big, beautiful, blue sky, Josh Allen’s #17 became the first jersey in Cowboys history to be retired. War Memorial Stadium was packed full of approving and appreciative fans. Allen thanked them.
The fans loved their former quarterback throwing jab at Wyoming’s Border War Rival, even the ones who came wearing Buffalo Bills uniforms, the quarterback’s current team in the NFL.
The Wolf Pack made it a 13-7 game at the 8:35 mark of the fourth quarter on a 43-yard field goal. The Pokes would drive to the Nevada one-yard line, but the Wolf Pack held as time ran out for the win in Laramie.
The Cowboys will wrap up the season in the Hawaii this Saturday evening at 9 p.m. in a contest on Spectrum Sports Hawaii and the Mountain West Network.
