The Wyoming Cowboys open the Mountain West season on Saturday afternoon against another team also playing in their first conference game, the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

The Rebels come into the matchup 4-0. Wyoming is 2-2.

UW Head Coach Jay Sawvel opened the Monday news conference talking about coming off the bye week.

Sawvell said he needs the defense to step up this week, after the 17-point loss at Colorado on September 20th. “We want more guys to play good,” was one of Sawvel’s main points Monday.

The big news coming out of camp is that left tackle Nate Geiger will miss the rest of the season with a left knee injury. Surgery is set for Monday after damage to his ACL and MCL. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound Geiger was undercut by CU edge rusher Wade Keaten on an early second-quarter sack in Boulder.

Saturday night, under the lights at the War, kicks off at 5 p.m. The Cowboys are a slight favorite, according to the oddsmakers.
