Wyoming’s Chad Muma didn’t have a cape on Saturday, but he flew all around Jonah Field. Muma, who notched 11 tackles and one interception in the Border War, was selected Mountain West Player of the Week. His fourth quarter pick was his third of the season, and it put the cap on any hopes CSU had of making a comeback. Muma said after the 31-17 victory that the Pokes took their frustrations out on Rams.

From CSU’s perspective, Muma is one of the native Colorado fish that got away. Muma was a standout at Legend High School , and ranked as one of the top ten recruits from the state in 2017. Muma is senior in mechanical engineering at UW. He said after last year’s loss in Fort Collins, the Cowboy seniors were on a mission to get back the boot.
Muma ranks Number 3 in the Mountain West for interceptions and number in the nation. On Saturday, Muma and the Wyoming defense held the Rams to 357 total yards, which was 47 yards under their season average. They only allowed one real explosive play by the Rams.
The Cowboys had plenty of explosive plays, big runs, two touchdown passes and offense that chalked up 385 yards—one of the best offensive performances in a while. Muma said sitting on the sidelines while the offense on the field, he’s still a fan, cheering on those big plays.
You got a glimpse there of the team camaraderie that got the Pokes through the four game slide. They gave up on each other or started pointing fingers.
The Cowboys are on a short week. They take on Boise State Friday night. The Broncos are tied for second place in the Mountain Division with Air Force. Injuries could be an issue for Wyoming after the bruising physical matchup with the Rams. Wide receiver Alex Brown is questionable. So is left guard Eric Abojei. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday we’ll be on the air at 5:30 with the pregame show.
Also Friday is an all-Carbon County State Title match when Encampment and Little Snake River play in the 1A 6-man championship at War Memorial Stadium. The Rattlers went 9-0 this season, the Tigers 8-1. It should be a heck of a matchup.
