October is here. For football teams, this is red meat time.

The easy money-making games are over for lesser college football teams to play the more established and nationally-ranked teams. It’s crunch time.

The national sports writers love Fresno State and Bulldogs quarterback Mikey Keene. The ‘Dogs won a wild shootout at Perdue to open the season. Keene threw four touchdowns to lead Fresno State to a 39-35 overtime win over Purdue in the season opener for both teams.

“He lit us up,” Purdue first-year coach Ryan Walters said of Keene, a transfer from Central Florida who threw four touchdown passes in his Fresno State debut.

The remainder of Fresno State’s September schedule was relatively easy. The Bulldogs come to Laramie tomorrow with a 5-0 record and hopes of repeating as Mountain West Champion this year.

The Cowboys are 4-and-1, with dramatic wins last month over Texas Tech and Appalachian State. The Pokes’ only loss happened at #3 Texas.

The Bulldogs have received a lot of love from coaches and sports writers. They come into Laramie ranked #24 in the nation. Here’s how Cowboy head coach views the Bulldogs.

It’s crunch time for the Cowboys. Coming up after tomorrow’s matchup are conference showdowns with Air Force, Boise State and CSU.

The October gauntlet starts tomorrow: Wyoming versus Fresno State.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the War. Bigfoot 99 will be on the air with the pregame show at 4:30. Go Pokes!
