It was a tough weekend for Wyoming basketball fans. The Cowboys and Cowgirls both came out on the losing side.

The early game on Saturday saw the Wyoming women fall to Colorado State 61-56 in a Border War matchup in Laramie.

With a minute to go in the fourth, the Cowgirls had a chance to pull within a point of the Rams, missed a bucket and a rebound underneath, and a chance for the win slipped out of reach.

CSU hit six three-pointers on 29 percent shooting, well under their season average of 35 percent, but they got the big shots when they needed them. The result: The Rams broke a three-game losing streak in Laramie.

The Cowgirls shot 4 of 26 from deep three-point range. Alyson Fertig did all she could, shooting a career-high 34 points. Fertig also grabbed 15 rebounds.

Fertig did not get much help. Wyoming head coach Heather Ezell called out the other seniors for not stepping up more in clutch situations.

The Cowgirls hit the road again Wednesday for a night game at San Jose State. The women return home to play Boise State on Saturday followed by their second bye on the schedule.

Wyoming is now 11-9 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Next up is Wednesday night matchup at San Jose State. The tip is set for 7 p.m. We’ll be on the air here on Bigfoot 99 at 6:30.
