Wyoming’s short week came last week as the Cowboys prepared for a Friday night’s Border War matchup with CSU. Their opponent this week is going through the same drill.
UNLV is facing a short week of preparation after rolling past New Mexico 56-14 on Saturday. For the Rebels, it was a bounce-back win after losing a conference heartbreaker to Fresno State on October 28.
UNLV Head Coach Barry Odom said on Monday that to give his team the time they need to recover and adjust their body clocks, practice times have been moved to 7:45 at night this week to make sure the body clocks of his players are in synch with Friday night’s game clock.
Coach Odom said November is like a sprint with no finish line. Every second counts.
The regular season is down to the final three games. With the Mountain West race headed toward the finish line, neither the Cowboys nor the Lobos can afford a loss this week.
Coach Odom and his assistants have been laser focused on the Wyoming game since they boarded the plane ride home from Albuquerque on Saturday.
Both Wyoming and UNLV are in the hunt for a berth battle in the conference championship game. Friday night’s matchup will go a long way to deciding who reaches the matchup.
UNLV is 4-0 at home this season. Wyoming has not won a game on the road. The Cowboys’ losses to seventh-ranked Texas, Air Force and Boise State were away from Laramie.
Coach Bohl talked about his team’s losing road record this week and what they’re trying to do to break the streak of goose-eggs.
Saturday night’s game will be played inside under the roof of temperature controlled Allegiant Stadium, west of Mandalay Bay off Interstate 90.
Costing $1.9 billion, Allegiant is the second most expensive stadium in the world. For that much money, weather won’t be a factor for an early November game. For both teams, Wyoming and Las Vegas, a lot is riding on the line to come out of the matchup with a win.
Kickoff is set for 8:45 Friday night. Wyoming versus UNLV here on Bigfoot 99. We’ll be on the air with the pregame show at 7. Go Pokes!
