The Wyoming men’s basketball team was on cruise control most of the way Saturday night in an easy 86-69 win over Utah Tech inside the Arena Auditorium.

The Cowboys improved to 3-1 overall, but UW Head Coach Sundance Wicks was not pleased with the “Zen” of the win. The young Wyoming team came away with an easy enough win, but Wicks did not believe his players did enough to impose their will and what he called “finish the job.”

The Cowboys shot 50 percent from the field on the night and held the Trailblazers to under 40 percent, continuing a strong Wyoming trend this season. No opponent has shot over 40 percent inside the Double-A this season. The Cowboys shot a season-high 23 free throws. The Pokes also dominated the glass for their second +20 game on the glass this season. Wyoming recorded 44 points in the paint and added 16 second chance points.

Kobe Newton led the way with a career-high 19 points on 6-0f-12 shooting.

Keith Kelly had the call as the Cowboys took charge early on Saturday night.

Newton played 25 minutes, 26-seconds without a single turnover. He went six of 12 from the field, two of five from the arc, five of six from the free throw line, putting up 19 points on the night.

Wyoming will return to action this Friday night hosting Southeastern Louisiana in the Arena-Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.
