Chad Muma is an animal. Not my words. Those are the comments of former Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen. Muma’s pick six Saturday against NIU was heard all the from Dekalb, Illinois to Wyoming and back across the country to Buffalo, New York.

Dave Walsh with the call as the senior linebacker put on a basketball leap to grab the catch, then put on the jets to hit the end zone for the touchdown. The score caught attention of Josh Allen, who tweeted out, “Chad Muma is an animal.” The mechanical engineering major said he didn’t believe it when his teammates he had caught the attention of Number 17.

Muma deserves it. When the Wyoming defense is on the field, #48 is the blur in the center of all the action. The preseason All Conference Selection from Lonetree, Colorado, has racked up nine solo tackles in each of the first two games, a couple of assists, a blocked field goal and the pick six. Muma said scoring on defensive is the sweetest part of the game.

What happened after Muma’s interception gave the Coach, the fans and the Cowboys themselves a lot of reason for concern. The Pokes went on a deep, long slide. Their 42-16 lead slipped away, and they found themselves one point behind with four minutes left in the game. Muma said yesterday that the defense broke down on their run assignments during the Huskies momentum-changing comeback. They’ve spent the week watching film and working on ways to improve. Muma said the first two games of the season, with all their faults, have been good learning experiences.

The Cowboys will need to fire on both sides of the ball Saturday. Wyoming hosts Ball State at War Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon. The kick is set for two o’clock on what should be a beautiful September day in Laramie. Bigfoot 99 will have the pregame show beginning at one o’clock.
