The Wyoming basketball teams started their season with practices this week.

The Cowboy basketball team will face Northern Colorado in an exhibition contest in Gillette on October 18 at 4 p.m. inside the Pronghorn Center on the campus of Gillette College.

“This is a really cool deal,” Wicks said. “I have a lot of love for my Gillette folks, and we have so many good people doing work for this event to make it special.”

Meanwhile, the Cowgirls basketball team opened practice for the upcoming season on Tuesday afternoon.

Wyoming must replace a pair of Mountain West Players of the Year in Allyson Fertig and Emily Mellema from last season. Fertig, whose name appears all over top-10 lists in Cowgirl history, became just the third Cowgirl in Mountain West history to be named the league’s player of the year. Mellema, meanwhile, was the fourth in Wyoming history to be named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year.
