Three weeks before the start of the new college football season, the Wyoming Cowboy running game has already taken a hit.
Dawaiian McNeeley is out for the season. McNeely tore an ACL during Wednesday’s practice, the first in full pads.
UW head coach Craig Bohl confirmed the diagnosis Friday after the result of an MRI of McNeely’s injured knee were made available.
Coach Bohl said, “He’ll get his surgery and get into a rehab deal and hopefully he’ll be back for next year.”
Last year, McNeeley rushed for 356 yards and one touchdown on 63 carries behind Titus Swen. Coach Bohl sent Swen packing at the end of last season because of disciplinary reasons.
D.Q. James will see his number called in the season opener against Texas Tech on September 2nd. Bohl also expressed confidence in linebacker turned running back Sam Scott and junior college transfer Jamari Ferrell based on their work in fall camp to date.
Northern Illinois transfer Harrison Waylee is expected to be in action by mid-September after offseason knee surgery.
