Air Force Head Coach Troy Calhoun described the Wyoming Cowboys as one of the most experienced team the Falcons will face this season.
Wyoming and Air Force will renew their Mountain West rivalry Saturday afternoon at the Academy.
Coach Calhoun reported that the Falcons enter Saturday’s matchup with a generally healthy roster. Air Force wide receiver Justin Barefield is listed as questionable due to a hamstring injury sustained in practice. His availability will be determined closer to gametime.
The Falcons will deploy their vaunted triple-option offense to counter Wyoming’s aggressive defensive line and blitz tendencies. Quarterback Liam Szarka with his passing threat adds a new wrinkle to the Air Force offense.
Calhoun described the Wyoming team as “experienced,” but noted the Falcons are focused on their own play this week.
The Falcons are 0-4 in conference play through their first six games. So, Air Force comes into the matchup hungry for a win.
Wyoming beat Air Force last year in Laramie, 31-19. It was one of only two conference wins the Cowboys enjoyed in 2024. The other “W” was over New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Wyoming received some good news this week on the injury front. Starting safety Jones Thomas sounds probable after missing last weekend’s game against San Jose State with an undisclosed injury. Fellow starting safety Andrew Johnson has already cleared concussion protocol after missing last weekend’s game.
Tight end John Michael Gyllenborg has missed the past three games, but second-year head coach Jay Sawvel sounded hopeful on Monday that John Mike will be back in action on Saturday.
Kickoff is set for 1:30 at Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Bigfoot 99 will be on the air at noon with the pregame show.
