Coming off the big Border War win over Colorado State in Laramie on Saturday, the Wyoming Cowboys will play a much tougher opponent this week in San Diego, California.

San Diego State scored Saturday night at the 3:32 mark of the first quarter on their way to a fifth straight win, 23-0 over Fresno State on Saturday. The Aztecs only loss this year came at Washington State. The Aztecs lost to the Cougars 36-13. San Diego State scored first in that game, but Washington State came to score 29 unanswered points.

The Aztecs went onto win three state Mountain West Conference games, including a 45-24 thumping of Colorado State on October 3.

Wyoming Head Coach Jay Sawvel is getting his team ready to travel to the west coast to take on the Aztecs Saturday night. The Cowboys head coach went straight into this week’s task from the start of Monday’s news conference.

Saturday’s contest will be Wyoming’s first contest inside Snapdragon Stadium. Located on a 166-acre parcel west of the main campus, it opened on August 19, 2022, after two years of construction.

The new home of the Aztecs was built adjacent to the demolished San Diego Stadium, which had been the home of the school’s football program since opening in 1967.

The Cowboys will be looking to build on their defensive effort that gave them the shutout win against CSU this past weekend. This will be Wyoming’s first two shutout win season since 1966 when UW beat Air Force 13-0 and beat Wichita State 55-0

Saturday’s matchup will showcase the two best defenses in the Mountain West this season.

Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Bigfoot 99 will have the radio broadcast beginning at 3:30.
