In sports, the Wyoming Cowboys are back in action tomorrow after last week’s bye in their schedule.

Tomorrow’s showdown with San Diego State will be the first game between the Cowboys and Aztecs since they last met in 2019. It may be their last meeting as SDSU prepares to flee the Mountain West for the PAC-12.

Wyoming opened Mountain West Conference play two weeks ago with their first win of the season. The Cowboys defeated Air Force 31-19.

The win was Jay Sawvel’s first “W” as Wyoming’s head football coach. Sawvel put the win in perspective this week.

The Cowboys are 1-and-4 going into tomorrow afternoon’s matchup. The Aztecs come into Laramie 2-3 after defeating Hawaii 27-24 in the Mountain West opener for both those teams last week.

Wyoming and San Diego State are tied at 17-17. Tomorrow’s tie-breaker game may be their last matchup for the foreseeable future as the Aztecs get ready to exit the Mountain West.

The Cowboys practiced three times during their bye week. Coach Sawvel said the week off was good for his players.

The big threat for the Cowboys tomorrow will be San Diego State’s running back Marquez Cooper. At 5’-8”, #15 is not big, but he’s powerful. Cooper rumbled to nearly four yards per carry last week and averaged nearly 4 yards per carry. He’s run for 583 yards already this season.

Sawvel said Cooper is a double threat, and he’s just one of many the Cowboys have to keep in check tomorrow

The Wyoming offense will have to keep an eye on #47 Trey White whose all over the field playing the edge. White comes into tomorrow’s game with 28 tackles, 9 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Sawvel said this week that White is very “disruptive.”

Wyoming’s offensive line, which had three starters go down in September, will be challenged tomorrow. Rex Johnsen, a 6-5, 296-pound sophomore from Logan, Iowa, is expected to make his second consecutive start after receiving praise from head coach Jay Sawvel for his performance against Air Force.

Meanwhile, Alex Conn, is expected to make his first career start tomorrow at left tackle. Conn came in for Wes King in the first half of the Air Force game.

The big Mountain West showdown goes down tomorrow inside War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. Kickoff is set for 1:30. Bigfoot 99 will be on the air at high with the pregame show.
