In the nightcap Saturday, the Wyoming men fell to San Diego State 63-61 in heartbreaking loss on the road.

The Pokes trailed by three at the half, then led by as many as 9, 50-41, at the 6:35 mark in the second frame. The Aztecs held steady, though, going on a 20-point run in the final six minutes to reclaim and then hold down the lead for the win.

Down the stretch, San Diego State reclaimed the lead at the free-throw line.

Everything was there for Wyoming to come away with the win but the Pokes scored just two points over a six minute and 30 second drought. The Cowboys couldn’t get their shots to drop but used the free throw line to claw back to within two points, going on an 11-to-1 run as time ran out.

The dry spell for the Cowboys came after a scoring run earlier in the second half when the shots had eyes. Dontae Allen played 35-minutes and 49-seconds. He collected 18 points on 5 of 10 from the field, four of eight from the arc, going four-of-four on free throws and collecting two steals.

Head Coach Sundance Wicks praised this team for playing up to the competition, but said the pressure got to his young players late.

Wyoming opens a two-game homestand on Tuesday against Utah State at 6:30 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium in a game on the Mountain West Network.

The young Wyoming team are within reach with the Mountain West Tournament coming up next month. The Pokes have now lost to Utah State at Logan by three and to San Diego State at the Viejas Arena by two.
