A 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Evanston, Wyoming, at 7:49 a.m. MST on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Officials at the University of Utah Seismograph Stations report that earthquake’s epicenter was about 6 miles south of the Wyoming state line, and a few miles west of State Route 150.
The tremor affected parts of northern Utah, where residents from Logan to Provo reported shaking furniture and startled pets. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the quake’s epicenter was about 54 miles east of Salt Lake City.
By mid-morning, instruments had recorded at least six aftershocks from the earthquake.
