Badger Creek Fire more than doubles in size

The Badger Creek Fire more than doubled in size in Tuesday and continues to impact travel along the southern edge of the Medicine Bow National Forest east of Saratoga. The latest estimate out last night puts the fire at 5,233 acres. Wyoming 230 remains closed between the Wyoming State Line and Woods Landing. On the Colorado side of the border, Colorado Highway 127 is closed from the Colorado 125 junction at the State Line Ranch near Cowdrey to the Wyoming state line. Also closed is Wyoming 10 from Woods Landing south the state line. In a release yesterday, WYDOT advised that the roads will remain closed until conditions are deemed safe for travel.

Meanwhile, additional resources called up to fight the fire began arriving on the scene Tuesday. About 100 firefighters, including four hot shot crews and one Type 2 crew spent the day protecting structures in the evacuated communities spread along Wyoming 230 from WyColo to Jelm. Aerial pictures on the Med-Bow twitter page show the fire was active on the eastern edge Tuesday afternoon, largely driven by strong winds and dried-up fuels. Hot, windy conditions are expected to continue today.

Saratoga swimming pool to receive improvements

In Saratoga, about 15-hundred dollars have been allotted for improvements to the town’s swimming pool. The issue – the wading pool is too cold so people don’t use it. Emma Diercks reports.

 

Sinclair ramps up fundraising for Boys and Girls Club

The Sinclair Wyoming Refining Company has issued a community challenge to area residents in an effort to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County. Despite adjusting its staffing, hours of operation, and membership costs, the non-profit organization geared toward children continues to struggle. Carbon County School District #1 disperses surplus of funds

Being frugal during the school year has paid off for Carbon County School District #1. Having an excess in carry over funds in the general budget, the board has dispersed funds to the Carbon County Higher Education Center, the Recreation Board, and employees. Emma Diercks reports.
