Structures lost as Badger Creek Fire continues to grow

The Badger Creek Fire grew to 7-thousand acres Wednesday and the first report of damage to structures was reported. Albany County Sheriff David O’Malley said last night that one cabin and two outbuildings in the Wold Tract area were destroyed. Authorities are attempting to contact owners of the properties. Christ Barth, public information specialist with the Type 2 team in charge of fire operations, told Bigfoot that structure protection continues to be the primary mission.

Barth said the fire exhibited extreme behavior on its eastern edge Wednesday, hampering efforts to establish a line on that side. Progress was made on the western edge. Over 250 firefighters are on the scene. Two road closures remain in place. Highway 230 is closed from Woods Landing to the Colorado state line. Highway 10 is closed from Woods Landing to the Colorado state line. All of the existing evacuations remain in effect. The new command team in control of fire operations say they hope to have the fire contained by the end of the month.
