In Saratoga, the North Platte Valley Medical Center is nearing its long-term goal of being certified as a Critical Access Hospital by the federal agency that oversees the process. The clinic received the authorization to pursue an inspection necessary for CAH certification.

CAH certification is necessary for the hospital in Saratoga to receive cost-based reimbursements from the federal government for services provided to Medicare patients.

A third-party accreditor will come to the hospital without notice sometime in the near future to perform a survey as part of the final steps in the facility gaining Medicare certification.

The letter announcing the important milestone arrived after former Chief Executive Officer Jeff Mincy returned to his home state of Texas to pursue a Christian ministry. Mincy’s last day at the clinic was May 17.

An interim director is already working at the medical clinic.

The NPVMC’s board of directors chose Scott Duke to serve as interim director.

According to a release from the medical facility, Duke brings with him more than 30 years of experience in healthcare administration and has been in leadership roles with rural hospitals and healthcare organizations in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. Duke was previously the President and CEO of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations. Duke also served as Vice President of Regional Operations for the Billings Clinic where he was responsible for strategic and operational oversight for a network of CAHs and outpatient clinics in Montana and Wyoming.

The North Platte Valley Medical Center will celebrate its one-year anniversary of opening one week from today, on May 30th.
