The Rawlins Fire Department is hosting its 4th Annual 5K Obstacle Race and Community Participation Event. This Saturday, May 25th, racers will line up outside of Rawlins Fire Station Number Two to take part in a 3.18-mile fun run and obstacle course. Rawlins Fire Captain Hans Pedersen said the race consists of four obstacle stations, all of which are optional.

The race begins at 9:00am. Fire Captain Pedersen said participants will travel west from Fire Station Two along East State Street, go under the train tracks, and head towards Depot Park on Front Street. Pederson explained the rest of the circular route. Once racers return to the fire station, they may take part in a variety of firefighter challenges.

Fire Captain Pedersen said money raised during the event is used to help needy members of the community. The fire captain explained that despite less funding, more people require assistance than ever.

Pedersen said the 5K race also serves to recruit more volunteer fire fighters. Saturday’s event will allow people to experience a little of what being a fire fighter is like.

During the race, the entire community is invited to a free breakfast of pancakes and sausage courtesy of Rawlins Fire Department volunteers.

The Rawlins Fire Department’s Fourth Annual 5K Fun Run Obstacle Course and Community Breakfast is this Saturday, May 25th, at Fire Station Number Two, located at 501 East State St in Rawlins.

Registration is $20 pre-event or $30 the day of the race. Check-in opens at 8:30am and the race begins at 9:00am.

The free community breakfast starts at 8:30am and ends at 10:00am.
