Saratoga’s recreation director will resign next month.

During Tuesday’s Saratoga town council meeting. Recreation Director Kim Hemenway tendered her resignation. Hemenway said her last day will be June 14th.

Councilman Jerry Fluty asked Hemenway why she was resigning. The rec director said the job is not what she expected. Hemenway also cited a lack of staff and low pay as reasons why she is leaving.

Mayor Chuck Davis said the town’s pool manager, Whisper Bunch, also resigned. Mayor Davis asked the council to authorize him to fill the two open positions.

The council voted to advertise and fill the open pool manager and recreation director positions.

The town is also looking for a part-time assistant recreation director. Mayor Davis suggested changing the position to full-time. The mayor said a full-time assistant can run the pool in the summer and help with gym activities in the winter.

Mayor Davis said making the assistant rec director position full-time may attract more candidates. The Mayor thanked the rec director for her time. Councilman Mike Cooley said he harbors no ill will toward Hemenway’s decision.

The council reluctantly voted to accept Hemenway’s resignation.

Hemenway has been the town’s recreation director for roughly one year. She took the job after Sarah Laughlin resigned from the position on May 7th of last year.
