The U.S. and Wyoming flags are flying at half-staff across the state today in honor of former U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, who passed away on Monday.

Tributes continued throughout the day yesterday. On the floor of the U.S. Senate, Enzi’s successor, Cynthia Lummis remembered her mentor as a “gentle giant” who worked tirelessly to make Wyoming a better place by providing opportunities for people.

Senator John Barrasso also memorialized Enzi. Standing next to a large photograph of Enzi, Barrasso described his longtime colleague as a friend whose commitments were to God, family, country and Wyoming. Barrasso said Enzi provided a “moral compass,” always pointing true north.

Senator Barrasso concluded his remarks saying that the people of Wyoming will always be grateful to Enzi for his decades of faithful, tireless public service to the state. Enzi was 77 years old when he passed away on Monday.
