The state’s suicide prevention hotline is now operating on a 24/7 round-the-clock basis.
Governor Mark Gordon made the announcement yesterday, saying in a statement that someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis “can now be confident that on the other end of the line, they’re talking to someone who – as a fellow state resident – is familiar with our state and cares about our people.”
In the past, staffing hours were limited because of state funding. The governor asked the legislature to fund the service and expand its availability during this year’s session. Wyoming-based coverage went full-time, all-day, every day last week.
The national 1-800-273-TALK line routes to a Wyoming dispatch center round the clock now. Beginning Saturday, July 16th, a simplified lifeline number will be across the country. That number is 988. Calls to that number from Wyoming will be answered in Wyoming.
