An 18-year-old Rawlins man faces a felony and a misdemeanor charge after being arrested for assaulting a man with a gun in Saratoga Saturday night.

According to Carbon County Circuit Court records, Beckett Robinson faces a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors also charged Robinson with reckless endangering with a firearm, a misdemeanor. The 18-year-old made his initial court appearance on Tuesday. Robinson posted a $10,000 commercial surety bond and was released from county jail.

Robinson apparently was headed back to Rawlins when he was arrested on Highway 130 north of Saratoga Saturday night following the assault. The incident occurred at the corner of Third and Elm Streets near the Saratoga Elementary School and Platte Valley Community Center gym.

The victim is 18-year-old Chris Henneck of Saratoga. Henneck, who received a total of five stitches—two above one his eyebrows and three on the neck—told Bigfoot 99 that Robinson assaulted him with a gun following a verbal altercation.

Henneck said he provided Saratoga police with the same description of the event. Police Chief Kenneth Lehr told Bigfoot 99 that in his opinion the gun the arresting officer took during Robinson’s arrest has not been fired recently.

The victim said he is certain the gun Robinson used during the assault discharged not once, but twice, during the attack.

Henneck said two 16-year-old friends of his were eyewitnesses to the attack and will testify that shots were fired. He said a person who lives near where the incident took place heard gunfire. A friend of Robinson’s also witnessed the attack, Henneck said.

The attack occurred between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. following the Christmas parade Saturday night. Families were inside the community center attending a holiday event.

According to court documents, Robinson’s next court appearance is a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon.
