With the final phase of the extensive remodeling of the Carbon County Courthouse nearing completion, the countdown to when some departments will move in has begun. A move-in timeline is now official.
Carbon County clerk and project manager for the courthouse makeover, Gwynn Bartlett, said administrative services will be in place at the completed courthouse building by the end of February.

The district court requires state mandated recording devices be installed before relocating. Each courtroom takes a week to outfit with the technology That means juggling circuit and district court dockets.
County residents passed the Specific Purpose Sixth Penny Tax in 2019. The projects to be funded were listed on the ballot. The Carbon Building-Courthouse Annex and County Courthouse were included in the measure. Bartlett explained why the courthouse, which was built between 1938 and 1940 needed to be overhauled.
Bringing thee 80-year-old building into the 21st century has required over three years of construction. The Carbon County clerk explained how the courthouse will become a modern hall of justice.
While the courthouse was undergoing renovations, the county’s circuit and district courts were temporarily relocated into the Interim Justice Center on Murray Street. Originally scattered around the city, Bartlett explained how the majority of the county’s legal services will now be consolidated under one roof.
With the Carbon County District Courthouse so out of date, improvements were necessary for the continued use of the historic building. Bartlett said she appreciated that county residents were able to see the need for the specific purpose tax.
Chosen in September of 2019, FCI Constructors of Wyoming is on schedule. The renovations to the Carbon Building were finished last year and the courthouse is on target to meet the February completion date.
