Tomorrow, Wednesday, is the big Wyo Gives fundraiser.
Each year, the Wyoming Nonprofit Network organizes a 24-hour fundraiser event called Wyo Gives. Tomorrow is the 4th year the event has been held. Wyoming Nonprofit Network Executive Director Jodie Shields explained where the concept for Wyo Gives came from.
Sheilds said 2020 turned out to be a good year to launch the online funding initiative. The executive director said COVID fears made people more open to donating over the internet.
Shields said the John P.L. Logan foundation, a private grantmaking organization focused on supporting charitable causes, pledged a $100,000 match during the first fundraiser. The executive director said the first year was such a success that the Wyoming Nonprofit Network decided to keep holding the event.
Shields said the next year, 2021, her organization received a $1 million match from the Hughes Charitable Foundation. In the 4th year of hosting the Wyo Gives event, Shields said the total amount of donation matches has risen to over $1.4 million dollars.
Shields said the number of nonprofit organizations participating in the event has nearly tripled since 2020. She said donors have a large variety of charities they can support.
The Wyoming Nonprofit Network has set up a website for tomorrow’s fundraiser, complete with a countdown timer. Shields said the Wyo Gives website makes it convenient for donors to support their chosen causes. She said donating online is safe and easy.
Starting at midnight tonight, donors can go to www.wyogives.org and choose the nonprofit organizations they wish to support.
